Special Families - You are NOT Alone!
Before giving unsolicited advice, how much have you wished an outsider would understand your
reality of homelife on a day-to-day basis? I am a therapist who "gets it" in what it means to have a life,
a marriage, and a family with a special needs child.
I accept
that you are the expert of your child and your life.
In counseling, we look
together at differing coping mechanisms and expectations of both the special child and the rest of the family, and examine
patterns of communication breakdowns and difficulties resolving conflicts. They then present a wide range of strategies for
handling or preventing these problems.
I listen and offer a safe,
non-judgmental, and honest relationship.
For parents looking for ways to
strengthen their marriage, we focus on makes a marriage strong, such as continuing to share connections outside
of parenting roles, keeping a sense of autonomy, and sharing childcare responsibilities. I stress the importance of creating
romance and intimacy even in the craziest of life moments, and we work together in finding time for each other even when you
feel too tired or overwhelmed.
You will lead me in what is
realistic for your family.
